If you switch off your thermostat from helping with Home/Away Assist, but use phone location, your Nest products will only switch their behavior when the Nest service determines that a phone is in your home. Select a Nest product, then tap the switch to enable or disable its participation in Home/Away Assist. You can also turn off phone location in your phone’s main settings menu, but this will not only affect the accuracy of Home/Away Assist, it may change how other apps on your phone work, too. With a feature called Home/Away Assist, the Nest Thermostat can use its built-in sensor, as well as the GPS location from your phone, to automatically determine whether you’re home or away.
Home & Away Routines for Nest app users
For me, this location was about 600 ft away from where I pinned my Nest location. This is what prompted me to check out the GPS Keeper app. Under “Use Away temperatures”, you can hold and drag on the two dots to set your minimum and maximum comfort temperatures.

While I do want my older Nest products to work in the same app as the new one, there are some obvious security and functional bits that would take time to get right with that process.

That’s not a problem for most actual security needs, but it’s rather frustrating if you’re trying to view changes from the camera’s view due to, say, weather. In fact, if you only have the motion sensor portion enabled, it will take about a week or so for the Nest Thermostat to learn your daily patterns and adjust itself efficiently. If you also use device sensors for presence sensing, their input may affect when your home switches to Home & Away. For example, if your thermostat senses motion around the time people leave, this input may delay the switch to Away to help make sure no one is still home. Tap the switch to enable or disable phone location for Home/Away Assist.
The new history feed is the closest we’ve gotten to a meaningful improvement, and even that doesn’t solve actual complaints. As I’m writing this post, I can’t view footage from 6am from my Nest Camera with Floodlight without spending five minutes scrolling back and forth to get it to finally load, but I can easily from my older Nest Hello doorbell camera. They’re both connected to power, and both on the same Nest Aware plan with 24/7 recording. The only difference is the Home app’s terrible handling of recording history.

I would like to share our experience with Icon Legacy homes, when my wife and I decided to build a new ranch home we started our search for a modular home manufacturer.
